Here I am.  One foot in two worlds.  My legs straddle the fence and I long for the day when I can hoist my left leg high, circle over the black plank, and have both of my feet on the same side.  But today is not that day.

There is always fear.  Fear that when both feet land firmly in one place that I will have reached a point of no return.  The roads will have diverged and I will have chosen and there will be no going back.

But even in this I know, not choosing is still a choice.  And I wonder if anyone ever really has their feet planted firmly in one world.  Because aren’t we all multi-faceted?  I’m a wife and a mother.  A mother and an employee.  A friend and a daughter.  Does anyone ever really find one place in life and settle into just that one place?

Because life is spinning, moving, flowing, and changing.  Still is good and necessary but movement prevents stagnation and we need both.  So, I will sit here for a little longer, confident that I’ll know when it’s time to leave one world behind and join the other completely.  And I will learn to be content… here, even if here is a different place tomorrow than it is today.

Joining again today with Lisa-Jo for Five Minute Friday. Our challenge is to write for 5 minutes flat on the prompt: “Here” with no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.

This post is so familiar to me–the feeling of choosing between two paths. Life is definitely not easy and these sorts of decisions make it even harder. I hope that your decision comes to you when you are ready for it. Beautiful post.

This is the best FMF I’ve read today. I understand your initial thought, but agree most with the end. Change, even standing on the fence, doesn’t make us fickle.

I’m feeling this these days! My roles are shifting, and I have to be all things everyday. Being content with the here & now is so important. Thanks for sharing.
