The words were screen printed on a long-sleeved t-shirt. “Run with patience” — a contradiction in our rat-race world.

And I remember thinking then, the first time I pulled the knitted cotton over my head, “How does one do it?”

I still ask. Because in my world, running and patience are diametrically opposed.

This running, is He really talking about t-ball games, doctors appointments, and church events. Or He it talking about a different race, the marathon that is life.

When Paul says run he’s not talking about our schedule or the next item on the list. He’s talking about intensity, fervor, passion for life in Christ — about living life on purpose with the mission of God as our guide. And patience, it is the truth we find in the knowing He is there, his plan will be fulfilled, and He knows how this story ends.

This post is joining with the voices of women over at Five Minute Friday. Our challenge is to write for 5 minutes on the prompt: “Race” with no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
